We were really impressed with the innovative use of our bamboo panels and decking when we visited Shaka Bros restaurant/bar in Christchurch recently.
Christchurch Cabinetmakers, DPK Furniture were tasked with coming up with the creative table and furniture design in this well-known burger restaurant. They cleverly used the edges of the bamboo panels to make “statement” tables, rarely seen before.
In the photos, the rectangular settings were made from edge-grain bamboo panels with solid mahogany and kahikatea ‘stringers’ in the bench seats – a nod to malibu surfboards. The square table with the ‘Skate Lam’ feature is made from edge-grain bamboo, inset with recycled skateboard detail – a collaboration with CW Works.
DPK Furniture also used Plantation bamboo x-treme decking as a “table” on the back of a Morris pickup truck – another innovative piece in the restaurant.
All in all, the Shaka Bros restaurant features some very cool and quite different furniture pieces. If you’re visiting Christchurch, you should check it out.
